FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I mount PicDice securely using a frame?
You can place the completed panels into a frame with backing (note: frame not included). Once framed, you can hang it like any large picture or artwork using the hardware that comes with the frame.
- Standard (5 kg / ≈11 lbs): safe with plastic drywall anchors or a simple screw into a stud if you want extra security.
- Large (15 kg / ≈33 lbs): we recommend stronger solutions such as a metal toggle bolt, a 3M CLAW anchor, or ideally a coarse-threaded screw directly into a stud.
Can I move or re-install PicDice after mounting?
If you’ve mounted your mosaic directly on the wall using the included tape, it is considered permanent. If you want to move or re-install it, you’ll need new double-sided mounting tape, since the old adhesive will not work again.
Panels can be removed carefully by applying heat (for example, with a hairdryer) to soften the adhesive before peeling them off.
If you’ve framed your mosaic, moving it is as simple as re-hanging any regular framed artwork.
Can I change my photo after I order?
Yes. You can upload and finalize your photo on the website before your kit is produced.
Can I create more than one mosaic with the same kit?
The short answer is no. If you use the sticky boards, removing the dice is a hassle and the boards won’t stay sticky.
You can also build your mosaic on a table and rebuild later with a new map, though most people prefer to keep it as finished wall art.
Is PicDice family friendly?
Yes. Building PicDice is a fun, puzzle-like activity you can do together as a family. However, the dice are small parts and pose a choking hazard, so they must be kept away from children under 5 years old.
Safety Notice: Choking Hazard
PicDice includes thousands of standard-sized dice. These are small parts and present a choking hazard for young children. For safety, PicDice should be kept out of reach of children under 5 years old.
If you have infants at home, we recommend hanging your finished mosaic well above reach to prevent accidental contact.
While building PicDice can be a fun, family-friendly activity for older kids and adults, it is not a toy for toddlers or infants. Always supervise younger children if they are present during the building process.
How long does assembly take?
Each tile takes about 15-20 minutes to complete, and the process feels more like solving a puzzle than doing a chore.
A Standard Kit includes 9 tiles and typically takes 2-3 hours in total. A Large Kit includes 25 tiles and usually takes 6-9 hours.
Many backers spread the work over several sessions or share the build with family and friends, which makes the process even more enjoyable.
Is it difficult to follow the map?
Not at all. Each photo is divided into small tiles, and every tile comes with a clear placement map showing exactly where each die goes.
The numbers 1-6 on the map match the pips on the dice (1 = darkest, 6 = lightest). You simply peel the sticky board and place the dice according to the numbers.
It’s straightforward, almost like paint-by-numbers, and the included alignment tools help keep rows and columns straight.
Can I see a preview of my image before I build it?
Yes. Our website automatically generates a dice mosaic preview of your uploaded photo before you confirm your design. This way you can test and adjust the image until you’re happy with the result.
What happens if I place a die wrong? Do I need to start over?
No worries. If you place a die incorrectly, just pull it out and put it back in the right spot or orientation. The boards are designed so you can make quick corrections without restarting your mosaic.

Can I include more than one person in my photo?
For the Standard Kit, we recommend using a close-up of a single person or object.
For the Large Kit, you can include 2–4 people in the same image. The larger surface area allows for better resolution and detail across multiple faces.
In general, the larger the image, the higher the resolution and the more detail your final dice mosaic will have.
